Anthony "Tony" Joseph Cialone, 81, of Shirleysburg, Pa., died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at his home following a brief illness. Born Oct. 23, 1926, in Huntingdon, Pa., he was the son of the late Fred and Antonietta Cupillari Cialone. He was the husband of Adeline Zinobile Cialone, whom he married in 1954. He attended Robertsdale High School and then enlisted in the Merchant Marines, in which he served from 1943 until 1945. He was a veteran of the Army infantry from 1951-53, seeing action on the front lines in Korea, and he was honorably discharged as a corporal. Following his wartime service, he graduated from the Pittsburgh Barber School. Earlier in his working life, he was employed at Harbison-Walker Refractories in Mount Union, Pa., East Broad Top Railroad and Coal Co., and did coal mining in Robertsdale, Pa. He also worked as a Baltimore Life Insurance agent, having earned the distinction as top salesman. He was a past director of the Huntingdon County Office of Veterans Affairs. Since 1965, he owned and operated the former Cialone Beverage. He operated Tony's Barber Shop, near Shirleysburg, until October 2007, when his illness prevented him from continuing. He was a member of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church in Mount Union. He was a charter member since Aug. 1, 1968, of St. Catherine's of Siena Council No. 6106, Knights of Columbus, Mount Union, and had held the office of Grand Knight from 1987 until 1991. He was also a charter member of Padre Pio General Assembly No. 1656 in Mount Union, since joining in 1974. He also held various offices in the Knights organization. He was a member of the Fort Shirley Lions Club in Shirleysburg and the MaddenWennick American Legion Post 518 in Orbisonia, Pa. He was the oldest of seven siblings. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law Angelina Cialone Kershaw and Craig Michael Kershaw of Eldersburg; grandchildren Laura Ann Kershaw of Virginia and Michael Robert Kershaw of Eldersburg; brothers and sisters Leo and Richard Cialone, Zeda Perta, Jean Cialone and Ann Lou Starzyk, all of Michigan, and Robert Cialone of Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by an infant son, Fred Anthony, and by a son, Fred Michael. A funeral Mass was held Feb. 15 at St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church in Mount Union. Interment with military honors was in Shope Cemetery in Blacklog Valley. Arrangements were handled by Robert D. Heath Funeral Home in Mount Union. (Carroll Co Times - 1/20/2008)
