He was raised by his mother's sister, Kathleen and her husband, Robert Brumbalow. He had a strong work ethic. From the age of four he caught and sold frogs to a local nursery. In grade school he made and sold leather goods to retailers. During high school he worked as a ranch hand during the summers in New Mexico. He worked his way through college at various jobs - working for Senator, Texas Railroad Commission and oil related jobs. After graduating from the University of Texas as a petroleum engineer in 1958, he worked for Burns Oil Company. In 1963 he started Engelman General Inc. On his 55th birthday, he sold his company to NATCO to spend more time with his family. Maybe it was because he lost his parents at a young age that his greatest value was his family. He often said the most important decision in life is whom you choose as your spouse. This proved true with Joan and Charlie's marriage of 57 years through their constant love and support of each other. Joan was Charlie's biggest fan, cheerleader, friend and vice versa. He adored Joan, his daughters and his five grandchildren. After retirement he continued his many hobbies which included flying, scuba diving, photography, sailing, tennis, skiing and traveling. Charlie loved spending time at Possum Kingdom Lake and Playa de Carmen. He played as hard as he worked! Charles served on various bank and insurance boards and as a Regent for Midwestern State University. After a year -long tough battle with Acute Myloid Leukemia, he was surrounded by all his family when he passed away Friday, January 15 to be with his Lord and Savior. He is survived by his wife, Joan Ware Engelman; daughters Kathy& Cindy; 5 grandchildren & great grandson on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eola and Julius Engelman and by his aunt and uncle, Kathleen Spring Brumbalow and Robert Brumbalow and by his sister Marcie Engelman Groenke.
