Florence, known to her family and friends as "Flanna", was born in Napoleonville, Louisiana on April 19, 1924 to Florence Munson Lanier and Haskell Dubose Lanier. Having grown up in Thibodaux, Louisiana and Camaguey, Cuba, Florence then attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee and graduated from Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans. While living in New Orleans, Florence met George Hall of Alexandria. They married in 1947 and moved to Alexandria, Louisiana, where they raised their family.
Being passionate about volunteer work, Florence was active in many organizations over the almost 70 years she lived in Alexandria, including the Alexandria Junior league, Kent Plantation House, Alexandria Garden Club, the Louisiana Historical Society, Friends of the Cabildo, The National Society of The Colonial Dames and Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition, Florence was on the Louisiana State Museum Board and was President of the Louisiana State Bar Auxiliary. Other passions, hobbies and interests were family, genealogy, gardening, sewing, baking, travel and museums.
Visitation will be open prior to the funeral service on Friday, February 24 at 10AM in the Narthex (front entry vestibule) of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church. The service will follow at 11AM in the church. Pallbearers will be Florence's six grandsons: Scott Hall, Jonathan Hall, Mattox Hall, Martin Olivier, Matthew Barnidge and Christopher Barnidge. Interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Kent Plantation House in Alexandria or to the National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
