He was a member of St. John Paul II Catholic Church, formerly St. Pius X and also attended Christ Church United Methodist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Joseph Hermes; and his first wife of 43 years, Betty Kerrick Hermes.
George is survived by his wife, Diane Holtz-Hermes; sister, Molly Lacefield; sons, Joe (Kitty) and Jim (Anne); step-daughters, Pam Allen and Karen Holtz; step-son, Brian Holtz (Julie); six grandchildren, Jason, Jody, Jonathan, Kaitlin, Erik, and Mark; six step-grandchildren, Sara, Angela, Mary, Alex, Ellen, and Jennie; and five great-grandchildren, Katelin, Jonathan, Abigail, Joshua, and Jacob.
George graduated from Flaget High School and University of Louisville. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of Ascension Council Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Orphan Home, American Legion Post #201, and a Kentucky Colonel. George retired from All American Bottling Company after 26 years as Personnel Manager.
Visitation will be from 3-7 PM on Friday, March 31 Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM on Saturday, April 1 at St. John Paul II, 3539 Goldsmith Lane, with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
