He was born Aug. 25, 1916, to Foy and Sophie (Olson) Johnson at home in Woodside Township on the former Virgil Zimmer farm. He married Lena Koehler Arndt on Sept. 13, 1938, at the Church of God Parsonage in Bertha.
Watson graduated from District 173 Country School and was baptized along with his twin sons in the Wrightstown Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Watson and Lena owned and operated their farm in Woodside Township and lived there 68 years. He enjoyed farming, horses, working in the wood lots and spending time with his family.
Services were held Saturday, March 8, at the United Methodist Church in Wadena. Pallbearers were Troy Johnson, Ricky Arndt, Kevin Harp, Ronnie Hoyhtya, Mark Hoyhtya and Kevin Hoyhtya. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery in Wrightstown. Arrangements were made with Domian-Anderson Funeral Home in Bertha (www.domian-anderson.com).
Survivors include Marvin (Jean) Johnson of Hewitt, Marlyn (Verla) Johnson of Richfield, Watson, Jr. (Donna) Johnson of Blaine; four stepchildren, Lila Johnson of Parkers Prairie, Donna Hoyhtya of Minneapolis, Vernon (Rosalie) Arndt of Riverton, Wyo., and Ivan (Alice) Arndt of Blaine; six grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Wallace (Ellen) Johnson of Detroit Lakes; sisters, Louise Johnson of Washington, D.C., and Darlene Carlson of Brainerd; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena, in 1978; parents, Foy and Sophie Johnson; brothers, Raymond, Donald, and William; sister, Lucille Hendershot; a son-in-law; a brother-in-law; and two grandchildren.
