He was a lifelong resident of Church Hill. He hauled milk for Pet Milk Company for several years while being employed with Armstrong Construction. Lon also worked as a grader operator with the Hawkins County Highway Department along with working as a weekend watchman at Aladdin Plastics. He retired from Holliston Mills in 1997 with over 21 years of service. Following retirement, he continued his love of farming. He was a retired member of Teamsters chapter Local #549. Mr. Evans was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his son, Danny Evans; his granddaughter, Kendra Cline; parents, Orbin & Myrtle Walters Evans; brothers, Paul (Red) Evans & Gale Evans.
Lon is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Lee Evans (of the home); his daughter, Lesa Cline & her husband, Kenneth; a son, Ritchie Evans & his wife, Christy; a daughter-in-law, Shelia Evans (all of Church Hill); 3 grandsons, Dustin Evans, Brandon Kilgore & Zackery Evans; 6 granddaughters, Jessica Kilgore, Audrey Evans, Monika Spitzer, Ashley Gibson, Kelly Cline & Michelle Cline; a great granddaughter, Nevaeh Kilgore; his sister, Louise Evans Frazier (Church Hill); a brother, Neal Evans (Rogersville); a sister-in-law, Bobbie Jo Evans Salley (Church Hill) along with several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at Elm Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery on Saturday (June 30, 2007) at 11 a.m. Pallbearers will be Randy Hurd, Jack Lawson, Cliff Evans, Bo Lee, Tommy Arnott, Mack Armstrong, Fred Armstrong & Willie Cornwell. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Dustin Evans, Brandon Kilgore, Zackery Evans, his friends & co-workers from Holliston Mills, friends from the Hawkins County CO-OP along with Jeremiah Carr & Lauren Jones.
