Gerald (Jerry) Kopper of Bakersfield, CA passed away on February 7, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on November 7, 1941 in Bakersfield, CA to Loren and Jessie Kopper. His younger sister is Kay Ellen Kelly.
Jerry will always be remembered as a devoted family man, beloved father and loyal friend. Living almost his entire life in Bakersfield, he remained close to the friends he made at Bakersfield Highschool throughout his life and married his high school sweetheart, Marie on November 18, 1961 at Chester Avenue Baptist Church. Jerry and Marie recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Jerry served his country from 1959 to 1965 in the Coast Guard Reserve and worked for many years for the Waukesha Engine Company before managing Western Engine Distributors at South Kern Machinery. As one of the top farm pump engine sales managers in the country he earned trips around the world to Japan, China, Mexico City and Hawaii.
Jerry was the proud father of three children: Kerry Armendariz (husband John), Karl (wife Elizabeth), and Ken; and proud grandfather of four grandchildren: Lisa Booker (husband Brad), Sarah, Geoffrey and Emma. Jerry loved to take his family on annual vacations. The family took camping trips to famous sites and national parks throughout the Western United States. Throughout their childhood, his children remember him as a father devoted to his family, and when he wasn't earning a living or taking a family vacation, he was always working on a project to remodel and improve the family home.
Jerry and Marie enjoyed many years of making happy memories and the close friendships of their group of friends known as the "Dirty Dozen." Jerry enjoyed an active retirement traveling, kayaking and bike riding.
He will be remembered as someone who had a full life full of adventures surrounded by his devoted wife, loving family and long-time close friends.
At Jerry's request, there will be no funeral service. His family requests that the next time you see a beautiful sunset, pour a glass of wine and recall a fond memory of your time with Jerry.
