John Franklin Koestner, son of William and Lillian Wagner Koestner, was born May 13, 1933, on a farm west of Webster City. He attended rural schools in that area and graduated from Lincoln High at Webster City in 1951. He received an A.S. in electronics from DeForest, Ill. and an A.A. in business management from Florissant Valley Community
College at St. Louis, Mo. He married Mary Ellen Meisberger and the couple were divorced in the 1960's. He was employed as a electronics inspector with McDonald Douglas at St. Louis. On December 31, 2006, he married Janna Karsjens at Fort Dodge. He had resided in St. Louis from 1956 to 1999 and at Badger since 1999. He served in the U.S. Air Force, for four years, at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and at Maxwell Air Force Base at Montgomery, Ala.
John is survived by his wife, Janna; son and daughter-in-law, John and Kate Koestner of Honey Creek, IA; sisters and brother-in-law, Rose Zedicher of Redwood Valley, CA; Karen and Glenn Young of Leroy, MN; Lila Nelson of Webster City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Christine Koestner, Dennis and Mary Ellen Koestner, David and Bernita Koestner, all of Webster City; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Richard Zedicher and John Nelson.
John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Humboldt, lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and the Aerospace Machinist Union. He also was an avid square dancer and was a former member of the "Wheelers & Dealers" and "Swinging Singles" in the St. Louis area. He met his wife at a square dance in Missouri.
