N.W. Lies Son Victim of Hit Run Driver
Leo Lies Dies In Chicago Hospital Tues.;
Struck Down on Roosevelt Rd.
Leo N. Lies, 37, son of the county chairman, N.W. Lies of Roselle, died Tuesday morning at the Francis Willard hospital in Chicago from skull fracture and other injuries received when he was struck by a hit and run driver last Friday evening on Roosevelt rd., in Chicago.
A coroner's jury report returned Wednesday afternoon at the inquest held at C. Kampp & Son funeral home in Austin, asked that the unknown driver when located, be charged with manslaughter.
Lies and his wife set out last Friday evening to purchase a Christmas Tree and toys for the children. When their car stalled in the 5000 block on Roosevelt rd., he climbed out to check the trouble and while raising the hood of the car was struck by an auto coming from behind, the driver of which never stopped. He was taken to the hospital immediately, but never regained consciousness.
Mr. Lies was a resident of Chicago for the past seven years and was a maintenance man for the Kropp Forge Company.
He leaves a wife, Julia, six children, Arthur, Robert, John, Geraldine, Muriel and Patricia; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N.W. Lies; two brothers, Victor Lies of Wheaton and Charles Lies of Roselle, and two sisters, Mrs. Ed. Schramer and Mrs. George Dieter of Winfield.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning at 10 p.m. from St. Isidore Catholic church in Cloverdale. The Rev. Fr. John Ott, officiated.
