He was shot by 22 year old Parker Vause of Wakulla County. They were having an argument near the Civilian Corps Camp and Barton showed up with a shotgun, but Vause fired first. Barton died almost instantly from a shot gun wound to the head. Vause surrended to the Sheriff and claimed self defense.
