OBITUARY: THE MARATHON TIMES Aug 15, 1941: "PIONEER RESIDENT OF VILLAGE DEAD AT AGE OF 87. Jacob Sonnentag Called to Rest Wednesday after illness of Several Months. Funeral services for Jacob Sonnentag, 87, who died at his home Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock after an illness of several months will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock at St. Mary's catholic church in this village. The Rev. G. J. Muller will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Sonnentag was born in Germany July 16, 1854, and operated a tavern in this village for 40 years until he retired July 1. He was twice married His first wife, the former Miss Katherine Jensen whom he married in 1882, died in 1891. He married Miss Elizabeth Butalla in Marathon in 1901. Survivors are the widow; one daughter, Mrs. John Belgram, Wausau; five sons, Joseph Sonnentag, town of Hamburg, John Sonnentag, this village; Frank Sonnentag, Mayville, and August Sonnentag, Wausau, and two half-sisters, Mrs. Mary Bauer, Beaver Dam, and Miss Anna Sonnentag, Milwaukee."
