Evelyn V. Pape, 87, of Bethany Home, formerly of Oak Park Place, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Bethany Home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 4, at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on Oct. 19, 1920, in Dyersville, Iowa, daughter of Anton and Rose (Drees) Rahe. She married Arthur J. Pape on April 10, 1944, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville; he preceded her in death on April 8, 1983.

Evelyn and her husband were blessed with eight children.

They were charter members of Thunder Hills Country Club and enjoyed playing golf there and around the country. She was always proud of her two holes-in-one.

Evelyn had a great love of nature, especially trees and birds. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and music, the piano being her favorite. Golf, quilting and playing bridge were her pastimes.

Her family will never forget her wonderful cookies, cinnamon rolls, bread, pies and doughnuts. Evelyn will be remembered for her reverence of her faith, her quiet and gentle manner and her strong love of her family.

Surviving are her two daughters, Joanne (Dave) Hanssen and Joyce (Dave) Hartig, both of Dubuque; six sons, Dave (Ivy), Loras (Susie), Allan (Bonnie), all of East Dubuque, Ill., Don (Kim), Bob (friend, Mary), both of Dubuque and Kevin (Maureen), of Sioux City, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Anthony (Rosemary) Rahe, of Dyersville; a sister, Eileen Hermsen, of Farley; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Rahe, of Dyersville.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Gerald, Leo, Leroy and Gilbert; and a sister, Dolores Krapfl.
