Donald Joseph Bickmann Jr., age 73, of rural Howard Lake passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023 at The St. Cloud Hospital.

He was born on October 31, 1949 in Hutchinson the son of Donald and Lucille (Campbell) Bickman Sr.

Don attended Holy Trinity Catholic School through 8th grade. He graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1968. Upon graduation, he was drafted and honorably served his Country during the Vietnam war in The United States Army. In Vietnam he was a chopper crew chief and also flew a few combat missions. Upon his return, he was awarded a number of medals including two Air Medals and an Army Commendation Medal. Along with the medals, he was given an Expert Badge with regard to his rifle shooting.

Don worked at Mid America Dairyman in Winsted for twenty-nine years. He later worked at The Wright County Highway Department. Don was a former sod farmer and also did part time welding.

Don loved old time Country music and was a fan of The Minnesota Vikings. He would love anyone's company that came to watch the game with him.

He often could be found visiting with people that stopped by, he had many close friends. He was fond of his home and took great pride in his yard and garden. Don was especially fond of his family and grandchildren.

Don belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus Council # 8253, American Legion Post #407 and was the longtime commander of Lake Mary V.F.W. Post # 9232.
Survived by his loving children: Christopher Bickmann, Patrick (Barbara) Bickmann, Jeffrey Bickmann and Tonya (Terry) Berg all of Howard Lake; seventeen grandchildren: Travis (Payge), Patrick Jr., Alex, Christopher, Joey, Kaity, Riley, Garrett and Bradley Bickmann; Ashley (Chris) Parks; Tommy, Trevor, Tara, Trisha and Trina Karels; Jaxon and Kobe Berg; ten great grandchildren; step children: Kris (Kent) Mehlhop, Karri (Jason) Stiller and Chad (Kelly) Hildebrandt; a sister: Mary Entinger; other relatives and many friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, a brother John P. Bickman, a sister Colleen M. Bickman and former wife Jan.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Donald Bickmann Jr. will be held on Monday, August 14th, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father John Hayes will be the Celebrant.

Interment with military rites Holy Trinity Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13th from 4-8 P.M. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. V.F.W. Rites at 3:30 P.M. and a Prayer service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Further visitation will be held on Monday, August 14th from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.

Casket Bearers will be Bradley, Travis, Joey, and Garrett Bickmann, Tommy and Trevor Karels.
