OBITUARY from THE CHESANING ARGUS
Funeral services were held at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning from Our Lady Church for August Tietz, 61, who died Sunday in a Saginaw Hospital where he had ben a patient for several weeks. He had been in failing health the last four years. Chesaning will remember Mr. Tietz best by his blacksmith shop, whch for years, was a landmark just east of the bridge. Rev. Fr. John F. Grinzinger conducted the funeral services and burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery. He was born in Germany May 30, 1885 the son of Anton and Rose Tietz and when he was four years old he came with his parents to Chesaning. His lifelong occupation was blacksmithing until poor health forced his retirement. On May 2, 1910 he was married to Miss Emma Mahoney in St. Charles and his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Alois Andres of Maple Grove, Mrs. Katherine Walat of Alicia and Miss Virginia Tietz at home and four sons Joseph and Raymond of Swartz Creek, Bernard in the merchant marine and Arthur at home; also three sisters Mis. William Amman and Mrs. Jack (should be Joseph--Helen Gengler) Amman of Chesaning and Mrs. Rose Martin of Swartz Creek. There are 10 grandchildren.
