Anna Dorothea Elisabeth Berger Monecke was born on November 10, 1821, in Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Dorothea had a son out of wedlock. A few months later she married Johann Heinrich Friedrich Mahncke and they had another son and two girls together. In 1854 she married Johann Friedrich Koenning. John and Dorothea had four children during their marriage. Dorothea died on August 7, 1892, in Ganado, Texas, at the age of 70.
