Harold Gene Schwager, "Hal", 73, of Leesburg, Fla., passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008. A long time resident of Albany, N.Y., he was born October 8, 1934 in the Bronx, N.Y., to the late Genevieve and Herbert Schwager. Hal attended the New York State College for Teachers in Albany, and began his teaching career at the Albany Medical Center School of Nursing. He went on to become a professor of biology at the Junior College of Albany (JCA) until his retirement. He was a master teacher, and the first recipient of the Teacher of the Year award at JCA bestowed by the students. He enjoyed giving snake presentations, dispelling fears and myths about them. His favorite pastime was riding his motorcycle, traveling through every state in the continental U.S. He is survived by his first wife, Marilyn Schwager and second wife, Sandra Schwager. He was a loving and devoted father to Beth (Rick) Kebea, Susan Schwager, Diane Schwager, Debbie (Ross) Pusatere, Pam Schwager, and Marc Schwager; and a devoted grandfather to Brett, Lorri, and Jon Kebea, and Alex Schwager. His is also survived by his siblings, Blake (Jeannie) Schwager, Bill (Kathy) Schwager, Audrey Fitzpatrick and Gini (John) Stolldorf and five nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 85 Elm Avenue, Delmar. Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Hal's life.
