Born in Galka,Russia. His father died at a young age. Raised by an uncle, Henry. He was promised land by his uncle when be became of age (21 years old). It didn't happen. The the uncle promised him land when he married. It didn't happen when he married Mary Katherine Winik from Holstein in 1894. His crops were stolen by Russian soldiers two years in a row. Left for America in the winter of 1904 via St. Petersburg to England to New York, arrived Nov. 19, 1904 on the Steam Ship St. Paul, to Woodbine, KS to home of Frederick Winik (or Wienich), father-in-law. Homesteaded in Kearney Co., KS in 1912. Naturalized U.S. citizen 1935.
