Frederic - Bonnie Lou Barnes, of Frederic and formerly of Fife Lake, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at home with family by her side. She was 84.

Bonnie was born on September 18, 1939 to Edward and Edith Marie (Wheeler) Smith. She grew up in the Walton Junction area, attending Fife Lake schools. Early on in life, Bonnie worked at Manton Industries and on February 1, 1984 she entered into marriage with Percy Fredrick Barnes in South Boardman, Michigan. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2005. Bonnie spent numerous years working as a teacher's aide in special education for the Traverse Bay Intermediate School District. Following her retirement, Bonnie spent time working and volunteering with Comfort Keeper's. She was instrumental in creation of the Fife Lake American Legion and gave of her time and energy as part of the luncheon committee. Bonnie enjoyed canning and above all cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bonnie is survived by her loving children, Tena (Ron) Thompson of Walton, Bryant (Mary) Skillern of Fredric, Mona (Danny) Cameron of Kentucky, Douglas (Barbara) Barnes of Harrietta, Cindy (Tom) Reichhardt of Manton, Janet (Manfred) Mahler of Georgia, Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger Smith; and many other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy; her parents; her son, Todd "Bubba" Skillern; step-son, Dean Barnes; brother, Bernard J. Smith and sister, Elsie M. Smith-Riley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Hall-Holdship Funeral Home in Manton. with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Walton Junction Cemetery in Fife Lake. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grayling Assembly of God, Greenwood Bible Church, or the American Legion Post 219 in Fife Lake
