Florence Krum Bogy, beloved mother and grandmother, died peacefully on March 10, 2021, with her sons Chip and Richard at her side. Born January 23, 1928 in Fresno, California, the firstborn child of Henry and Katherine Krum, she had an ideal early life growing up on the family ranches in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. A proud Volga German, she was especially close to her grandmother Katherine Bitter and her grandfather the Reverend John C. Bitter. During her teen years she sang in the church choir and played the church organ. Following her graduation from high school, where she served in student government and played basketball and tennis, she entered the University of Southern California, where she pledged Chi Omega and remained an active member of that sorority throughout her life. At USC, she met a dashing USMC WWII veteran, Fred Bogy. They married at Quantico, Virginia, when Fred was attending Officers' Candidate School and received a commission as a Marine Corps special forces commander. Fred retired from the military at the close of the Korean conflict and they settled in Toluca Lake, California, where she lived the rest of her life. Fred entered the family insurance business with his father and remained in the business until his death in 2010. Florence and Fred raised four children, Cathy, Vernon (aka Chip), John and Richard. When growing up, all her children were involved in more sports and activities than seemed possible. Florence became the official family chauffeur, driving to the beach for surfing, to the mountains for skiing, to the hills for water skiing, to tennis lessons, baseball, football, equestrian events, and every school event that arose. Free weekends it was off for the family ranch. Florence was involved in many organizations including PTA, Little League and Pop Warner football, among others. She was an inveterate volunteer, spending many years and long hours as an officer and board member of the Assistance League of Southern California, the Hollywood Bowl Auxiliary, and the Volunteer League. She was an active member of the USC Associates and the Women of Troy. She was a founding member of the USC Trojan League of the San Fernando Valley and was for many years active in the USC SCion scholarship committee. As the children grew older, Florence and Fred became enthusiastic international travelers. She was gracious, warm, loving, and a generous friend to many, and she had an unparalleled zest for life. Florence was preceded in death by her loving husband Fred and son John. She is survived by daughter Catherine Bogy McMillan, granddaughters Katie McMillan, Annie McMillan and Alison Bogy, and sons Chip and Richard. Photo was taken at Florence's 92nd birthday celebration.
