Phillip R. Finch ROXBURY -- Phillip R. Finch of Roxbury, died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at his residence with his family by his side. Phil was born Jan. 6, 1931, at Oneonta, the son of LeRoy and Beatrice(Hamm) Finch. He married Barbara Krieger on Nov. 11, 1949, in Roxbury. Graduating from Roxbury Central School in 1948, Phil served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Ralph S. Ives Jr. American Legion Post 1785 and an honorary member of the Roxbury Fire Department. He had a love for the outdoors and was a avid hunter. He spent 40 years in the excavating business with his son, doing the work he enjoyed. Phil and Barbara enjoyed wildlife and the outdoors and spent many adventurous vacations in Canada and out West. His love for wildlife, inspired him to develop his property into a small wildlife sanctuary where they spent many hours watching the deer, birds, ducks and bears and other animals in their backyard. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Finch; sons, Eric and wife, Kathleen Finch, Marty and wife, Rita Finch, Nicholas and Ruth Banks; daughters, Kristin and husband, Michael Higgins, Laurel and husband, Russell Hatch; grandchildren, Chelsie and Brian Higgins, Kim and husband, Joe Roberts, Ashley Banks, Shannon Finch; Nicholas Finch, Kaitlyn Krause, Joey and Shyanne Roberts; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Andrew Lutz, stepsister, Sylvia Lutz Buyce and granddaughter, Lisa Marie Finch. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 18, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury. Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, at the Jay Gould Memorial Church, Roxbury, with the Rev Richard Dykstra officiating. Committal services will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Phillip R. Finch may be made to the Roxbury Fire Department or the Ambulance Fund of the Roxbury Fire Department. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
