Donnis Lee Kaspar, 87, of Burkburnett, Texas was embraced by the Holy Arms of the Heavenly Father on December 27, 2023 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Donnis was born on August 25, 1936 in Iowa Park, Texas to Walter H. and Olga (Engelman) Kaspar. He was raised on the Kaspar family farm in the Clara Community on the banks of the Red River. He graduated from Burkburnett High School in 1955 where he played football for the Burkburnett Bulldogs. Shortly after graduating high school, he was drafted and served honorably in the United States Army from 1959-1961. He was deployed to Italy with a missile unit where he climbed the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Upon returning from his military service, he worked on the family farm. In 1969 he started at Virgil Mills Steel Building where he would retire in 2005 as Foreman. His greatest day was September 21, 1974 when he married the love of his life JoAnn Thomas of Burkburnett. They raised two daughters, LeeAnn and Cathy, and they celebrated 49 years of marriage in 2023. Over the years they enjoyed many vacations to Red River and Hondo, New Mexico. Don loved JoAnn as Christ loved the Church. Don's favorite pastimes include hunting, reloading ammunition and hand making knives. He was the best Papa Don to his grandchildren, Landon, Brady and Lindsey. Papa Don loved to take them to the family farm to deer hunt, ride the four-wheeler and climb the windmill.
He was a long standing member and elder of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Clara, where he taught Sunday school for 60 years and referred to it as the place where God's Glory dwells. Don also delivered Meals on Wheels for 11 years with JoAnn by his side.
Donnis was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Olga Kaspar; brothers, James and Philip Kaspar; sister, Mildred Rathke and brother-in-law Rusty; brother-in-law, Hugo Leimer; and nephew, Russell Kaspar.
Don, the most devoted and doting husband, father and Papa is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughters, LeeAnn Miller and husband David, and Cathy Rodgers and husband Mark both of Burkburnett; brothers, Fain Kaspar and sister-in-law Selma, and Leslie Kaspar; sister, Dolores Leimer; sister-in-law, Judy Hancock and husband Hank; grandchildren, Landon and Angela Miller of Wichita Falls, Brady and Cassidie Hamilton of Fort Worth and Lindsey and Derek Vann of Iowa Park; great-grandchildren, Cash Miller, Miles Miller and Dakota Vann; and he was also the favorite uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
