John Robert (Bob) Risch, Jr, 81, Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Heartford Home of Owensboro. He was born in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Robert Sr. and Kathryn Risch and was the oldest of five children.
After graduating from Central Catholic High School in Vincennes, Bob continued his education at Indiana Business College earning a certificate in accounting. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was awarded several medals while serving in Vietnam with the First Cavalry (Airborne). He served as "the radio man" during one of the toughest weeks in the Ia Drang Valley. After serving his country, Bob returned to Vincennes, where he met and married his wife, Patricia, in 1967. They later moved to Owensboro, KY, in 1973, where they raised their three children, Lynn, Jeff and Greg.
Bob was employed with Kroger for over 25 years, and Shoney's, where he retired with over 30 years of service. Bob enjoyed working and was always on the move. He would never shy away from talking about or following his beloved St. Louis Cardinals & Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. Bob's proudest accomplishment was his family and thrived most being around his grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Lelah Yates, father-in-law, Robert D. Yates, brother-in-law, Robert R. Yates, brother-in-law, Russ Nyman, sister-in-law, Jackie Risch, sister-in-law, Linda Holloway, brother-in-law, Jim Malone, brother-in-law, Peter Newton, son-in-law, Bryan Robinson, grandson in-law, Colby Wilde, and grandson, John A. Risch.
Bob is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Patricia Risch of Owensboro; daughter, Dr. Lynn Robinson of Abilene, TX; two sons, Jeff Risch (Mary Jane) of Spring Hill, TN, and Greg Risch (Jamie) of Henderson, KY; grandchildren, Nick Heistand (Erin) of Evansville, IN, Lindsey Risch of St. Petersburg, FL, Katie Wilde and Ben Robinson of Abilene, TX, Katelyn McCord, Jacob Risch, and Kendyl McCord of Henderson, KY, Ally Risch, Carter Risch, and Reid Risch of Spring Hill, TN; great-grandchildren, Koen Biggs, Karsyn Heistand, and Bradley Wilde; sister, Barbara Newton of Baltimore, MD; brothers, Jerry Risch (Sally) of Greenwood, IN, Steve Risch of Pensacola, FL, and David Risch (Maria) of Franklin, KY; sister-in-law, Jan Nyman, and lots of special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery at a later date.
