David Heinrich (D.H.) UnRuh was born on 19 Mar 1894 in Welicochiaschescoje (Wohldemfuerst), Prov. of Stawropol, Kuban, South Russia. His parents were Heinrich Unruh Sr (24 Oct 1844-abt 1929) and Katharina Harder (23 Sep 1852-abt 1923).

David and 1st wife, Olga Regier (3 May 1893-15 Jul 1962), were married on 2 Sep 1918 in Wohldemfuerst. She was the daughter of Abrahm Regier (2 Jun 1853-12 Dec 1918) and Christina Gutwin (29 Sep 1859-19 Aug 1918).

David and Olga were Mennonites who fled to Canada (Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan) from Russia in 1924 due to religious persecution. In all, they had 12 children - three born in Wohldemfuerst; the rest all born in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada. The Mennonite Committee of Canada sponsored the family to Canada and they arrived in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada on the "Empress of Scotland" (CP Lines) on 15 Nov 1924. They then travelled by train to Herbert, Saskatchewan, where they rented the Klippenstein farm. They moved to Lucky Lake, not far from Herbert, on 8 Apr 1926.

Olga died in in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on 15 Jul 1962, and is buried in Vera Cemetery in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan.

David decided to move to Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1963 to be near his sister, Theresa (Unruh) Reimer. He married Agatha Bertha Rempel (22 Apr 1908-14 Mar 1997) on 19 Oct 1963 in Vancouver.

David died in Vancouver at age 72 on 29 Jul 1966 and is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery, Plot: JONES/*/37/007/0016.
