Bradley Johnson Snyder passed away at Eisenhower Hospital in Rancho Mirage, California on Sunday, July 30, 2023 after a three year battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer.)


He was born September 29, 1940 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Ralph Bernard Snyder and June Louise Weber. He graduated from Hollywood High School, CA, where his father, whose professional name was Ralph Story, worked in radio and television. 


He attended Colorado College, Middlebury College, and the University of Colorado, Boulder, earning a Ph.D. in German language and literature in 1968. He taught for five years at Mount Holyoke College, then became Executive Director of the Mohonk Preserve in New Paltz, NY. 


In 1983 he married Molly Burns, of Boston, MA. In 1985 they moved to Boulder, CO, where he worked in the alumni and development office of Metropolitan State College (now University) of Denver. Molly died of breast cancer in 1993.


He retired in 2000. In 2013 he married Rex A. John, of Denver, in a ceremony on Coronado Island, CA. That same year they moved to Rancho Mirage, CA.

He was an avid mountain climber, including most of Colorado's "Fourteeners," as well as Denali in Alaska and peaks in Ecuador and Peru. He trekked twice in Nepal. He learned French in his 60s and continued hiking and bicycling into his 80s, reaching almost 200,000 lifetime miles.


He had no children. He is survived by his stepmother, Diana Ferris Story, and two step-children, Elisabeth Cutrer and Jonathan John.
