Judy was born on April 14, 1939 in Marshfield, the oldest of 7 children to William and Eileen (St. Dennis) Sweeney. She attended St. John's School and graduated from Columbus High School in 1957. She met her husband James Steger who was a part of the United States Air Force. They married on January 9, 1960 at St. John's Catholic Church in Marshfield.
Judy and James traveled to different air force bases including North Dakota, Illinois and Okinawa Japan. Her eldest son Jeffrey accidentally drown at the age of 5 in 1965. Two years later James transferred to Viet Nam and met his untimely death on November 30, 1967. His death being right before Christmas and being left a single parent with 3 young children, Christmas is and will always be the most important holiday for Judy. She always had a gift for everyone and never came in empty handed.
For the past 10 years, Judy worked for American Family Insurance Agency for Mary Luepke. Due to ill health she retired last year.

Judy had a heart of gold and was loved by so many. She was a compassionate selfish person who would give to others before giving to herself. Judy was a fighter with a strong will to keep pushing on. Through her many struggles in life, she kept a smile on her face each day. We'll always remember her quick witted sense of humor. Family gatherings, traveling and going to the casino were her favorite things to do. She was an avid packer fan and loved her special dogs Harley and the late Teddy.

She is lovingly survived by her mother Eileen Sweeney of Marshfield; three children Jay (Patti Rehbein) Steger; Jodi (Mark) Beck and Jill Steger all of Marshfield; 5 grandchildren, Kira Steger of Minnesota, Keri (Aaron) Bodenheimer of Wausau, Jamison, Jena Steger and Briana Beck all of Marshfield; one great granddaughter, Falynn Bodenheimer of Wausau. Judy is further survived by her and two brothers Bill (Sue) Sweeney of Appleton and Mike Sweeney of Marshfield; four sisters Pat (Paul) Adler, Sheila (Jim) Wein, Karen (Jim) Schreiner and Casey (Buster) Handke all of Marshfield.
Her special friends, Mary Luepke, Jan Schneider, Linda Dopp, Patty Ruder and Janet Carlson as well as many nieces, nephews and many other friends.

She was preceded in death by her father William Sweeney, husband James and a son Jeffrey.
She was an amazing mother, daughter, grandma, sister and friend and will be in our hearts forever. We love you and will never stop missing you.

God saw she was getting tired
And a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around her
And whispered "Come to Me."

With tearful eyes we watched
Her suffer, and saw her fade away.
And though we loved her dearly,
We could not make her stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard-working hands now rest.
God broke our hearts to
Prove to us…
He only takes the best.
