Vernon Brue

January 10, 1947 - February 16, 2024

Vernon was born January 10, 1947, in Shelby County, Iowa. His parents were Herald and Aletha Brue of Irwin. He was baptized and confirmed at Evangelical Church in Defiance. He attended school in Irwin Public schools and graduated there in 1965. He went on to community college in Denison, IA and continued on to follow his passion working on all types of engines, vehicles and farm equipment. He was a self-taught mechanic always determined and successful in learning all that was necessary to fix, build, and rebuild whatever came to him. He continued this career throughout his life and ultimately retired from Remmington Seeds in Harlan where he had spent 30+ years.

In the Summer of 1967, he was united marriage to his High School sweetheart, Linda Nelson. Into this union came a son and 2 daughters, Robert Louis, Kristen Renee, and Malisa Ann. Their first home was an apartment near downtown in Harlan. When their family was complete, they moved to the spot-on 5th and Baldwin where they lived for nearly 50 years and raised their children. This was their home until the Summer of 2018 when they moved back to the county and settled on an acreage next to Malisa and Michael.

Throughout his life Vernon kept busy with the things that brought him so much joy - his family, friends, and always, the cars. There were always things he was working on to make them look cooler and go faster. His sense of humor followed him wherever he went, and he was perfectly comfortable when the joke was at his expense. His grandkids would come to expect and greatly enjoyed the silliness of Grandpa.

In his later years as his eyesight failed and his health was compromised, he remained ever determined to enjoy what his body would allow him to. This consisted of lots of walks around the acreage, mowing the yard, and sharing his knowledge with those who called or stopped to ask.

Vernon passed away at his home on February 16, having attained the age of 77 years and 37 days. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Brue, his children: Bob Brue (Patty) of Harlan, Kristen Rusch (Jeff) of New Ulm, MN, and Malisa Koesters (Michael) of Harlan; 7 Grandchildren; Bradley (Emily) Brue, Abbey Brue, Emily Koesters; Colton, Lucas, Aliah, and Cooper Stanley; 3 Sisters and a brother: Joleen (Gary) Koch of Spirit Lake, IA, Becky (Mark) Reinig of Mound City, MO, Karen (Dale) Wood of Norwalk, IA, and Ben (Patty) Brue of Jackson, MI, many other family members and friends.
