Educational background, etc: Born the seventh child in a family of ten, Lois or "Prince," as she was known, she completed the eighth grade at Bunker Hill school, in Marion County, MS, but had a Masters Degree at life. She had to quit school in her teens to assist the family in picking crops and helping her sister Lena tend to the large family of children who had been robbed of their mother by a train accident when she was only six years old. Although untrained, she was extremely intelligent, gifted with creative talent, she could recite the entire multiplication tables through 12, and Joyce Kilmer's poem, "The House with nobody in it," until about one month ago, when dementia finally clouded her mind. Kindness was her trademark, but it was her common sense that allowed her to cheat death so many times, and managed to survive to the ripe old age of 88. In 1938, her father remarried, Miss Myra Gates, who helped him with his children, and together, they added an additional six children to her family. Trying to survive the "Great Depression" of the 1930s, the family moved to Ponchatoula, LA when Lois was about sixteen. Instinctively, she would return to Mississippi to help family who had remained there to bring in their crops. Lois later moved to Bogalusa, LA and lived with and worked for Ms. Kimbrough at the where she learned upholstery and mattress making. In 1941, she moved to the Gulf Coast and worked as a ship builder during WWII, welding in the hulls of the war ships. It was during this time, that she met Howard Miller Prince, Army Air Corps pilot and musician, who was stationed at the time in Biloxi. He was a member of the OX5 until his death in 1990. They married in 1942, and moved from place to place following the family business of oil field work for a long time. One of the most beloved and respected women, she worked selflessly to give others what she could. She once won $10,000.00 on a scratch off ticket at Bootsy's in Ponchatoula...she shared the winnings with her friends and family, giving most of it away. Giving was what made her feel good, and she loved to make people happy. Her life became one long unbelievable adventure. She was told she had only a slim one in ten million chance to have a child, so she took the chance, and did it. She survived a broken neck in 1952 in a car accident, as the hospital could not find the break, she was starved and discharged on a stretcher. McKneely's came with an ambulance and brought her to New Orleans Charity. They stood her up with sandbags on her arms, and the break was clear to see. She survived on not much more than sheer will against all odds, she united a huge family, and gave of herself so that others could prosper and thrive. Lois Prince was a fighter and a survivor; she could take any situation and find a solution to the problem. She was one of God's greatest gifts to the world. Always fun and adventurous, she had already danced at Gilley's before it was in the movie; was "in love" with Tyrone Power, the actor; she was of Irish blood, and had the temper to prove it. She could hold her own with a pauper or a prince. In the 1960s, she bowled for Hinson Insurance Company, and won many trophies for them. A most honest, genuine, and loving person, the world today has lost one of it's most benevolent ladies. We all know now who the real "Wonder Woman" was.

Arrangements entrusted to Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel. Interment in the Ponchatoula Cemetery, Ponchatoula.
