Daniel Joseph Veselka, 56, of Lorena, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, April 28, 2008, at his home. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., with a brief rosary service at 6:30 p.m. led by Msgr. Mark Deering. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday May 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, 1401 Washington, Waco, with Msgr. Deering as celebrant. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Daniel was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Louis and Martha (Rejcek) Veselka. He graduated from Reicher High School, class of 1971. While a sophomore in high school, Daniel started working for Reddy Ice, and by the age of 21, he became the youngest manager in the Southland Corporation while residing in Duncanville, Texas. After a successful career with Southland Corp., he then moved with his family back to Waco. In the fall of 1981, he purchased Holiday Ice from his mentor, Ennis Boyette. Later, in 1996, Daniel retired from the ice business and worked in the antique and retail sales as well as estate sales until 2003. He then was employed at the Federal Detention Center. Due to Daniels ever present work ethics, he quickly moved up in rank to administrative lieutenant and became a TCLEOSE certified instructor.

Though Daniel accomplished much in the business world, to him his greatest accomplishments in life were marrying his high-school sweetheart, Nancy C. Haake on Aug. 12, 1972, and the births of their two children.

Always a family man, Daniel received great joy in the birth of his grandson, Daniel Mitchell Veselka "LD," who was always the sparkle in his eyes. The Veselkas are longtime members of St. Louis Catholic Church. Devout Christian, husband, father and friend, Daniel had profound respect for the world around him. Daniel was a man among men whose strengths/talents will ever be present through his friends and family. For the man who never knew a stranger and was respected by all that knew him, Daniel will be greatly missed.

He is survived by wife, Nancy Veselka; son, Christian Veselka and wife, Renee, and their son, Daniel Veselka; daughter, Angela Golding and husband, Jonathan Golding; mother-in-law, Billie Haake; brothers, Ronnie Veselka and wife, Cathy, and Kenneth Veselka and wife, Connie; sisters, Cecilia Haferkamp and husband, Doug, and Margie Veselka; and numerous nieces and nephews.
