Chapel Hill

Amy Goldstein Adams passed away peacefully, at the age of 100, in Chapel Hill, N.C. on May 20, 2023. Amy was born August 11, 1922 in Peoria, Illinois to Miriam Horwitz Goldstein and Harry M. Goldstein, where she was raised along with her older sister, Betty Goldstein Friedan, and younger brother, Harry M. Goldstein.

Amy attended Smith College, Class of 1944, and graduated from Tufts University in 1945 with her Bachelor of Arts degree. Her first marriage to Gene Adams produced two sons, Thomas and Peter. After her divorce, she earned her elementary teaching certificate at Columbia Teacher's College and taught at the East Hills School in Roslyn, N.Y. for thirty years.

In retirement, Amy settled in Chapel Hill, N.C. where she met "the love of her life", George Wyman, who she married at the age of ninety-two, on Valentine's Day, 2015; they shared five happy years before George passed away.

The other loves of her life were literature, politics, community and, especially, her constantly growing family.

Amy was pre-deceased by her parents, sister and brother; she is survived by her sons, Tom Adams, Livermore, Ca., and Peter Adams and wife, Ann Sitrin, Mechanicsburg, Pa., five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Amy's ashes will be scattered, at her request, in a location that will allow her grandchildren and great grandchildren easy access. Donations may be made in Amy's memory to Americans for the Separation of Church and State, or to a charity of your choice.
