He spent his early life in Cambridge and had lived in Brighton for 25 years before moving to Littleton in 1959. he had worked as a sheet metal worker for Gilbert & Becker Co., Inc. of Dorchester for more than 25 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the Littleton-Westford Elks, the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 17, and a communicant of St. Anne's Church, Littleton.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth S. Portanova, Eugene L. Portanova and Lawrence Portanova, three daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Madelyn) Owens, Mrs. Phillip (Lillian) Kelly and Mrs. Conrad (Theresa) Hamp; four brothers, Joseph, Michael, John and Guy Portanova; three sisters, Faye DiPerna, Lettisa Portanova and Sister Madelyn Francis Portanova; 20 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
