Longtime Alaskan Sarah Rita Reimer ''Diangak'' died Feb. 27, 1997, at Auburn Regional Medical Center in Auburn, Wash., due to kidney failure after major surgery. She was 87. A service was held March 3 in Kent, Wash. A burial ceremony was in June at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery in Anchorage.
Mrs. Reimer was born May 24, 1909, in Teller, where she graduated from eighth grade. She spent winters in Teller and summers at their fish camp called ''Nook.'' A homemaker, she also resided in Unalakleet and Anchorage. She left the state upon her husband's retirement from City Electric in 1979. Mrs. Reimer enjoyed being a caretaker of her loved ones, crocheting, cooking and baking. Her family said: ''Our beloved mother was one of 14 Inupiaq children born and raised in Teller, living off the land as our ancestors have done for thousands of years. She married our father, John Reimer, while he was stationed at the Nome Coast Guard Station. They moved our family to Anchorage in 1946. Our mother was strong, proud and dignified. We will always cherish her and the things she taught us in her Eskimo way. She and our father will live in our hearts forever.'' Mrs. Reimer was preceded in death by her husband, John, and daughter, Lois Babb.
She is survived by her son, John Reimer of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Augusta Reimer of Anchorage, Bonita Atkinson of Pacific, Wash., and Rita Ferris of Napa, Calif.; sisters, Anne Thornton of Auburn, Wash., and Betty Pinson of Marysville, Wash.; brothers, David Bernhardt of Coppermine, Northwest Territories, Canada, and Tony Bernhardt of Hilo, Hawaii; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the charity of choice.
