JOHN EMMERT OF COLONA EXPIRES— Veteran of Civil War and Longtime Resident of Rock Island County Passes Away Last Evening.

COLONA, Illinois— John Emmert, veteran of the Civil War and longtime resident of Rock Island County, was called by death at 8:00 p.m. last evening, May 18, 1916.

The end came in his home in Colona, Illinois, where he had lived since close of the war, and was the result of infirmities of age.

John Emmert was born in Weizenbach, Germany, February 19, 1833. When a child, 1 year old, he came with his parents to America, settling first in Pennsylvania. Later the family moved to Morristown, Illinois, where he grew to manhood.

His marriage to Johanna Cochran took place September 18, 1856. Johanna died March 14, 1904, in Colona, Illinois.

When the Civil war broke out, Mr. John Emmert enlisted in the 37th Illinois volunteer infantry. He served during the entire conflict and was honorably discharged May 15, 1865. At close of the war, Mr. Emmert and his family moved to Colona, Illinois, where he had since lived.

John Emmert was well known among all older members of the county and was a member of R. H. Graham Post No. 312, G. A.R.

Nine children, all of whom survive, were born to the union. They are George S. Emmert of East Moline, William S. Emmert of Silvis, Mrs.
Mary Greko of Moline, David M. Emmert of Blue Island, Margaret Emmert, Ellen Emmert, Charles Emmert, Frederick Emmert and Mrs. E. Vincent of Colona, and Mrs. Caroline Druyer of Blue Island.

Fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren are also bereaved.

Funeral services will be in the Colona home at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. Members of Graham Post will have charge of the services and are requested to meet at the Rock Island station there to take the 1:20 p.m. train to Colona.
