He was born May 27, 1956, at Axtell, the son of Clarence and Edna Leslie Wessel. He had lived near Baileyville for five years and lived most of his life in the Burlingame community.
Mr. Wessel attended the Hetlinger Training Center in Emporia for nearly 10 years.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Scranton.
Survivors are his mother, Edna Wessel, Burlingame; brothers, Philip Wessel, Burlingame; Michael Wessel, Burlingame; Douglas Wessel, Lansing; Terry Wessel, Osage City; and Joel Wessel, Osage City.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Wessel, on May 8, 1987.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Patrick's Church in Scranton. Burial was in Burlingame Cemetery.
