Bruce Allen Scroggin, of Grover G. and Edith Allen Scroggin, was born December 17, 1923, at Oak, Nebraska. He passed away Saturday, October 23, 1999, at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 6 days.

Bruce started school in Corpus Christi, Texas, when his parents and grandparents closed their business because of the depression at that time and went there to spend the winter. He finished the 8th grade at the Oak School and graduated from Nelson High School in 1943.

May 20, 1945, Bruce married Ermalee Ferguson of rural Oak at her parents home. Three daughters were born to them: LeAnn in 1947, LaRee in 1951 and Lynae in 1960.

Bruce loved the farm. The family had plans for him to be a banker, but after two years of banking in Edgar, his love of the outdoors prompted him to start farming again. He also had a cattle feeding operation for many years.

In early years, he was Scout Master in Oak. He was on the Advisory Board at York College for seven years and then served on the Board of Trustees for four years. Bruce was on the Nuckolls County Museum Board for several years. He was instrumental in the beginning of Nebraska Youth Camp and served on it's board. He was Vice President of the bank in Edgar.

Bruce was baptized into Christ in 1952 and was faithful to the Lord until his death.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Leonard K.

Survivors include his wife, Ermalee; three daughters, LeAnn Egle and her husband Duane of Gretna, Nebraska, LaRee Eckman and her husband Steve of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Lynae Stafford and her husband John of Lafayette, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Amy (Egle) Jaekel, Cheri (Egle) Phillips, Jarred Eckman, Jeremy Eckman, Benjamin Stafford, Joshua Stafford and Rachel Stafford; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Jaidon Jaekel.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 27, 1999, at 10 a.m., at the Church of Christ in Davenport, Nebraska, with Duane L. Egle and Steve Eckman officiating. Music was "There's Within My Heart A Melody", "Living for Jesus" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" by the Church of Christ Singers. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery at Oak, Nebraska.

Pallbearers were Dustin Corman, Jarred Eckman, Chris Jaekel, Bryan Phillips, Scott Eckman and Jeremy Eckman. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Beam, Romie Boilla, Junior Drohman, Gene Genung, Harley Grone, Willard Hinds, Bob Sanner, Marion Schirer, Richard Swensen and Jim Woerner.
