Anthony T Poeta, 84, Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 19, 2008, at Research Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Friday, May 23, at St John LaLande Catholic Church, 805 NW R D Mize Road, Blue Springs, Missouri; entombment in Mt Olivet Mausoleum. Visitation will be 3 to 8 pm Thursday at Passantino Brothers Funeral Home, 2117 Independence Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri, where the rosary will be said at 7 pm.

Anthony was born September 15, 1923, in Revloc, Pennsylvania. He began work as a coal miner and became a union representative for the United Mine Workers of America, and later the United Steelworkers of America Union. Anthony retired in 1983 as a Sub-District Director of the USWA, representing seven states. During his time with the USWA he enjoyed dinner at the White House with President Carter. Anthony loved working in his garden and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carmine and Rosina (Tabacchi) Poeta, and his sisters, Nella Currie and Phillie Corte.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Mary Poeta; children Carmen Poeta, Patricia Poeta; granddaughters Mary Gaverth and husband Courtney, Cetta Poeta, Angela Poeta; and great grandson Ryan Anthony; brother and sister-in-law Frank and Minnie Poeta; sisters Frances Masci, Valentina Parisi, and special friends, Ed and Laura Kubis, and Mariann Canzonere.

Pallbearers: John Canzonere, Michael Coughlin, Tom Flaim, Ed Kubis, Bill Quint, and Francis Poeta.

Tony loved people and he was always there to help whenever needed. He will be missed by all. Arrangements: Passantino Brothers Funeral Home, 816-471-2844
