He was born Cyril and Dorothy (Dahlinghaus) Bertke.
Surviving are two sisters, Sharon (Mike) Lhamon, St. Marys, and Denise (Phil) Keegan, Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.
He attended Immaculate Conception High School until 1972 and graduated from Celina Senior High School in 1973. He received a Bachelors Degree in teaching from Wright State University and later received his Masters Degree in Education from Wright State University. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton. He was a member of N.E.A. and O.E.A.
He was an elementary teacher for Dayton City Schools. He taught at Jefferson Elementary and E.J. Brown Elementary. He received the Jennings Scholar award from Dayton City Schools.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Richard Riedel C.PP.S. officiating.
