Fred Edgar Pheifer, 72, of 914 W. Center St., died at 3:55 a.m. yesterday in Decatur and Macon County Hospital, where he was admitted Saturday. He had been seriously ill two weeks. Mr. Pfeifer was a lifelong resident of Macon County. He farmed for several years, and was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. in Decatur. He retired 10 years ago.
He was born in Niantic Aug. 20, 1884, a son of George Michael and Anna Jones Pfeifer. He married Lessie Milton in St. Louis in 1907. She died in 1932. Surviving are daughters Mrs. Lena Sutzer and Mrs. Minnie Richey, both of Springfield; sons Paul and Merle L., both of Decatur and Homer E., Springfield; brother Charles L., Decatur; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at the J. J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery.
