Lydia B. Smith died April 1, 1988, following a short illness, in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

Mrs. Smith first came to Lancaster in 1927 as Lydia Overman where she taught for two years at Lancaster Elementary School after graduation from Winona State Teachers College. She also taught in California and Washington.

She was born Feb. 14,1902, in Rush City MN, daughter of Henry and Bertha Overman.

She and Elmer (Jelly) Smith were married in 1931 in South Bend, Indiana.
A former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary, Mrs. Smith worked with her husband in Smith's Store, a Lancaster landmark, for many years. The couple retired in Holiday FL in 1964.
