GOSHEN - Marie C. Shidler, 90, of 3113 Parchmount Ave., Kalamazoo, MI, formerly of 716 S. Main St., Goshen, died at 11:19 a.m. Sunday, June 22nd, in Gloria's Place, Kalamazoo. She was born on March 31, 1918, in Wyatt, IN, to Emil and Edith (Bendit) Berger. On August 13, 1938, in Goshen, she married Dayton Shidler, who died on July 14, 1946. She was also preceded in death by her longtime companion and friend, Stanley Piasecki in 1999; her sisters, Minnie Hardy, Edna Hershberger and Aline Haab; and brothers, Albert, Paul, Harry and George Berger. She retired as a receptionist for Dr. J.P. Turner, and for many years was a member of Women of the Moose and Elkhart County Medical Assistants. Survivors include a daughter, Donna (Robert) Kaarlie of Allegan, MI, a sister-in-law, Bernice Berger of Goshen, nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Grace United Methodist Church, New Paris, with Pastor Rob Nelson of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at West Goshen Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour before services in the church. Memorials may be made to the National Veterans Administration or to the American Heart Association. Condolences may be sent to yodercupfuneralhome.com.
