Obituary as follows:

MUNCIE - Final rites for Sgt. Gene Franklin Clark, a member of the Army's 1st Calvary Division, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Batllion, L Company, will be Saturday, June 28, 2008. On November 2, 1950, Sgt. Clark was reported "Missing in Action," in North Korea, and was officially declared dead on December 31, 1953. Fifty-seven years later the family received word of the identification of his remains through DNA analysis.


Gene Franklin Clark was born October 19, 1929, to Frederick Andrew and Esther Reed Clark of rural Albany. He graduated from DeSoto High School in 1947. After attending Ball State Teachers College for one year he joined the United States Army in September of 1948. His basic training was at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was then sent to Fort Ord, in California, before being sent to Japan with the Occupation Forces. In the fall of 1950 he was sent to Korea.

In his younger years Gene attended Delaware Chapel United Methodist Church. He was active in basketball, baseball and track while attending DeSoto High School. He also played baseball while serving in the Army in Japan.

Surviving are his brother, Dr. Frederick A. Clark,. (wife, Ann), Richmond, VA; his sister, Martha C. Wolfe, (husband, Fred), Muncie, IN; his sister-in-law, Maxine Clark, New Richmond, IN; his nieces and nephews, Robert Clark, (wife, Kay), Lake Wales, FL, Donna Galloway, (husband, John), New Richmond, IN, Nancy Cain, (husband, Terry), Garland, TX, Sara Bullock, (husband, Larry), Madison, IN, Phillip Clark, (wife, Terri), Dunkirk, IN, Patricia Clark, Crawfordsville, IN Lesley Santos, (husband, Leonardo), Madrid, Spain, Abby Clark, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Cathy Nelson, Richmond, VA, Julie Reed, (husband, David), Milford, Ohio, and Andrew Wolfe, (wife, Jodi), Noblesville, IN; many great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews.

Since 1953 his parents have died and also a brother, Robert Clark.

Final rites with full military honors will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008, at College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1968 W. Main Street, with Rev. David Arnold officiating. Burial and military rites will follow in Black Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday.
