Westport - Memorial service for Joseph E. "Butch" Huettl, Jr., 78, Westport, will be Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Sacred Heart Church in Westport. Burial of his cremated remains will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery with Father William Osborne officiating. Liturgical wake service will be Friday at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen.

Joe passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at his home.

Joseph E. was born July 11, 1928, to Joseph E. Sr., and Henrietta (Laux) Huettl in Columbia, S.D. He attended Garland Township School and graduated in 1942.

He worked on the family farm until he entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 9, 1950. He had his basic training in 2nd Armored Division in Fort Hood, Texas. He went to school for Surgical Tech. at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas, and served 18 months in Germany. He received his honorable discharge Nov. 9, 1952, and returned to Columbia.

He farmed for 17 years and then was employed with Brown County Highway Department until retiring in 1990. Joe married Betty Bonnet, and they lived on the family farm near Columbia and in 1972, they moved to Westport.

Joe's hobbies included gardening, playing cards, bird watching, cooking, watching and reading westerns and going for drives.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Westport, S.D.; his children, Deb K. (Dan) Schlosser of Westport, S.D., Dawayne "Dewey" (Paula) Huettl and Dan Huettl, both of Aberdeen, S.D., Cheri (Patrick) Harms of Monona, Iowa, Carla (Kevin) Klovstad, Scott Huettl, Steven (JoEllen) Huettl, James Huettl, all of Aberdeen, S.D., Sandra (Joel) Hoistad of Great Bend, N.D., Randy Huettl of Aberdeen, S.D., and Tammy (Jeff) Osborn of Westport, S.D.; 14 grandchildren, David and Brian Schlosser, Sharee Burgess, Stephanie Huettl, Samantha and Rebecca Harms, Jordan Huettl, Trent Huettl, Braxten and ArieOnna Hoistad, Rhiannon Huettl, Noah, Raechel and Emma Osborn; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Huettl of Westport, S.D.; and one sister-in-law, Doris Huettl of Aberdeen, S.D.

Preceding in death is one daughter, Lynn Marie Huettl; his parents; and two brothers, Edwin and Raymond.
