His home was steadily visited by friends all those last months, where he jested and laughed while pain gripped his life. He was conscious to the last and never gave up, but that he was to live and his and his friends know that he was gone to the Eternal city, as he practiced the kindness of the Master in his daily life. He was a member of the Lutheran church.
He was born December 23, 1864, in Menzingen, Baden, Germany, coming with his parents to Clinton when he was 19 years of age, also his young brother, Alec. His brothers, Herman Schmidt, and Rudolph Bratzler had been in this county for several years. He learned the shoemaker's trade in his youth, which he followed for several years after his arrival here. He was miller at the White Swan mill for about twenty years. He loved flowers and nature and kept his own place exquisitely.
He was united in marriage with Miss Lena Schellman, October 29, 1893, who survives him with their two sons, Albert and Gussie, both of Clinton. One child died in infancy. He also leaves two brothers, Rudolph and Alec Bratzler and half brother, Herman Schmidt. Henry Bratzler's friends called him "Dutch". He like his home and politics. He took an active part in all elections, being a strong partisan, knowing all the leaders of the Democratic party so he could call them by their first name. He visited the big political conventions and had a front seat. He was often at Jefferson City, getting on the inside of things. He served Clinton as councilman, giving h is personal attention to the committee work of the council. Christmas time was his special delight and well do the children remember him at that time as he was always there to help at the treat the Elks give each year. His funeral was conducted at the Baptist church last Saturday morning
