Helen Ann [nee Summers] Rausch was born May 16, 1920 in St. Paul, Minnesota to James Jerome Summers and Mary (Ann) Catherine [nee Koecheler] Summers. She attended St. Bernard's Grade School and St. Joseph's Academy, and graduated from the College of St. Benedict in 1942 with a degree in Sociology, with minors in English, History, and Education. She was certified for social work, as well as music education, and 9-12 education.
Helen married Severin Frank Rausch, whom she had met when he was a student at St. John's University, on March 24, 1943 at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds before he left for the European Theater of Operations in WWII. While he was in Europe, she worked at the Eastman Kodak Company in St. Paul. After he returned in 1946, they resided in St. Paul while Sev continued his education at the Minneapolis Business College on the GI Bill and where their first daughter, Lynn Louise, was born. Later, they moved to Ortonville, Minnesota, where Sev joined the Columbia Granite Works, which later became Steiner-Rausch Granite Co. and Rausch Brothers Granite. They moved to Rochester in 1956 where Sev joined IBM.
A charter member of the St. Pius X Church community, Helen was integrally involved in the opening of the grade school, implementing the cataloguing system for the school library, which she was entirely responsible for stocking. Helen was organist at St. Pius X for over 25 years, taught piano at the Hoffman-Madsen Studios, and taught piano and organ at Schmitt Music. She was a member of AAUW and in later years a volunteer at Samaritan Bethany. She moved to Madonna Towers in 2005.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Summers and by her husband of 63 years, Severin Rausch. She is survived by her daughters, Lynn L. Rausch of Eden Prairie and Liane (Mrs. Thomas) Petersen of Chaska; her son-in-law, Thomas S. Petersen; and three grandsons, Samuel Rausch Petersen, John Devin Petersen, and Mark Jared Petersen
