Mary Agnes Hauer emigrated from Germany to Galveston Texas in July 1852 with her family, when she was six years old. She later lived in Cincinnati, married her first husband, Edward Crotty in about 1872, and had three children: Mary (1873), Emma (1877), and William (1879). Mary and Edward Crotty divorced in 1892, and Mary married again, to William C. Ludwig of Cincinnati.
