Robert Christian Egly, 85, of Indiana Veterans' Home, died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday morning, Aug. 24, 2003, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Born June 27, 1918, in Bluffton, he graduated from Petroleum High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Ball State University in 1940, and his masters' degree in 1953.

He lived in Petroleum prior to moving to Rossville in 1964. He returned to Petroleum in 1991, and moved to the veterans home a year later.

Mr. Egly taught for Union Township in Wabash, and was a principal in Farmland, Roanoke, and for Carroll Consolidated High School. He was the principal and superintendent of Rossville School for 16 years. He served in the Army for 57 months, during World War II and the Korean War.

He was a member of Rossville Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 111, American Association of School Administrators, and the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents.

Surviving are two sons, Steven Egly of Battle Ground and Douglas Egly of Kenosha, Wis.; a brother, Max Egly of Bountiful, Utah; a sister, Christine Melick of Petroleum.
