"The Lord is my Shepherd"

Lois Elaine Heike Zahn, formerly of Wausau, died Mar 22, 2011, while residing at Marywood Center.

Lois was born May 15, 1929, in Durand, WI, to Olivia and George Heike. She graduated from Durand High School in 1947 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1951. She subsequently earned her Master of Science degree in home economics at the same university. Upon graduation, Lois taught high school for several years then moved to Wausau to teach at what is now Northcentral Technical College. She married Edward Zahn, a fellow instructor at NTC, on Nov 15, 1958, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Durand. At the time of Edward's death Aug 16, 2010, they were married for almost 52 years.

Lois participated in and shared her husband's passion of scouting by serving as a Girl Scout leader for many years and by working at Boy Scout Camp Tesomas during the summer. In her spare time, Lois enjoyed playing and watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers. She also had a love of music and played the saxophone, piano and organ. She shared her talents by playing the organ in church. Her other favorite pastimes included gardening, flowers, all things red, dachshunds and taking pictures.

Serving the Lord and being a devout church parishioner was Lois' biggest passion in life. She was very active at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wausau and filled her schedule with many activities including teaching Sunday school, playing the piano, being a member of Lutheran Church Women and the Altar Guild, and maintaining a remembrance book. Lois also filled her time by serving as a "professional" volunteer helping at the Aging and Disability Center, Mobile Meals and visiting elderly who were confined to their homes.

With her family, Lois was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to nurture and is well-remembered for baking rosettes and other Norwegian goodies, which she shared with the church and many friends. Few were ever able to resist when Lois offered and insisted on serving up one of her renowned "no thank you" helpings.

Lois was preceded in death by both parents and her brother, Robert.
She is survived by her daughter, Angela (James) Kopetzky of Wausau; son, David (Cheryl Ball) Zahn of Naperville, IL; three grandsons, Derrick Barrett and Zachariah Barrett, both of Wausau, and Ethan Zahn of Naperville; and two great-grandsons, Bryson and Kayson Penn, both of Wausau. She is also survived by her nephew, Robert (Judy) Heike, and niece, Pamela (Greg) Heit, all of Durand; and another niece, Barbara Glenn of Eau Claire; and Donna Armstrong, a double cousin, also of Eau Claire; and numerous grandnieces and nephews.
