Funeral rites were conducted at St. Joseph's church, Pierz, at 9:30 Tuesday morning for Christ Gerwing, who passed away at St. Gabriel's hospital at 4 a.m., Saturday morning, October 6th. Officiating at the services was the Rev. Robert Voigt, with interment in the Pierz cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ed Cremers, Paul Gelhar, Peter F. Virnig, Al Konen, Reinie Konen and Victor Hoffman.
Mr. Gerwing, who died at the age of 70 years, 8 months, and 25 days, was born in Pierz, January 11, 1886, the son of Henry and Anna Gerwing. When 18 he went to Canada, where he homesteaded and farmed for 6 years, after which he returned here to Buh township, operating a farm until moving to Pierz three years ago.
He married Juliana Loidolt at St. Joseph's church in Pierz, April 27, 1909. She preceded him in death two years ago.
The following surviving children are four sons, Herman, Reinhart, Herbert and Rolland, all of Pierz; and five daughters, Mrs. Art Wolch (Armella), Lastrup; Mrs. Edmund Boser, (Johanna), Mrs. Walter Przybilla (Alma), Mrs. Herbert Storkamp, (Mary Ann), all of Pierz; and Bernadine, at home. Three died in infancy.
Surviving brothers and sisters include John, George and Joe, Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan, Canada and William, Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Canada. The grandchildren include 27.
