Capt. Powers is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Philip Powers of 3285 Asbury Street, Dubuque, Iowa, and the husband of Mrs. Maxine W. Powers of R.R. #1, Box 373, Mount Vernon, Washington. He was one of eight children.

Awards: Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device, Purple Heart Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with One Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal.

Footnote: The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal {posthumously} to Captain James Conrad Powers of the U.S. Army for conspicuous gallantry and Intrepidity in action while serving with Co. C of the 3rd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division in connection with combat operations against the enemy on 5-26-1967.
