Mr. Decker, 76, formerly of Theilman, died Sunday (Aug. 3, 2008) at his home in rural Millville.
Cecil Norbert Decker was born June 6, 1932, in Elba. He attended country schools at Fairwater and Elba and then attended St. Charles High School. On Sept. 3, 1952, he married Christena Goetz in Elba.
Mr. Decker worked for the Corps of Engineers and for Archer Daniels Midland in St. Charles, and operated the Mobil Station in Kellogg. He farmed in rural Theilman, and in 1969, opened the Old Country Store in Theilman. He also owned and operated an independent security guard service until his retirement in 1986.
He and his wife built their home in Theilman by hand, complete with terraced gardens. Mr. Decker was an avid gardener and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic, West Albany, and the Catholic Aid Association. He also served as custodian of St. Patrick's in West Albany for many years.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Kaloa (John) Hanson of Rochester, Kansas "Kandy" Olson of Lake City, and Gail Pepe of Lake Worth, Fla.; three sons, John "Jack" (Sherrie) of Plainview, Richard "Dick" (Cindy) of Iowa Park, Texas, and Daniel of St. Charles; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, West Albany, and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church. A prayer service will be at 8 p.m. today.
