Robert E. Meier, 66, Wichita, died Saturday, March 5 [1994] in Marion.

He was born in Wingenenkon, Germany, the son of Jacob Meier and Lydia Ostwald Meier. He emigrated with his parents and siblings, leaving Bremen, Germany, aboard SS Dresden and arriving in New York October 22, 1928. He was raised in Marion, graduated from Marion High School and attended Bethany Colletge in Lindsborg.

He served in the U.S. Navy for two years before returning to Marion, where he married Wanda Ireland in 1949. They moved to Wichita in 1951. He was with Henry's for 17 years before joining Sheplers in 1969. He retired as president of the firm in 1978 after the death of his wife.

He married Mary Sandwell of Marion on December 18, 1979 and continued to live in Wichita. At the time of his death he was employed at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton as director of annual giving.
